Small town 4th of July

I was delighted to celebrate the 4th of July at the "cowgirl"-themed Fourth of July in Ennis, Montana. I did an outdoor talk on the night of the 3rd (shown in the picture above) and signed copies of "The Cowboy Girl" during the parade on the 4th, in conjunction with the Friends of the Madison Valley Library. The Friends were delightful, and even though I sort of live in one myself, there was something magical about visiting somebody else's small town Fourth of July celebration.

Booktour.com
I would have loved booktour.com even if I wasn't on book tour. (In fact I would have loved it a little more if it had started a few months earlier, before I invested a lot of data in a different calendar.) Its goal is to tell anyone when authors are speaking in their neighborhood. You just type in your zip code and it tells you about upcoming events. Of course the site is still relatively new, so its coverage is not yet complete. (Its coverage is better in cities than in rural Montana, which as I have mentioned before is common for virtual geography sites.) If you tried it before and didn't want to bother logging in, try again: now no login is required.
Authors go on book tour to meet people -- booksellers, media types, librarians, and best of all readers. I hope the organizers of booktour.com achieve their goal of helping more of us connect with more of you.
PS As the little box says, I'll be in Cody this Monday. Please feel free to stop by.

Clint Eastwood in a Dress
Editor Betsy Marston saw my interview on newwest.net and asked me to write up an essay about the book's reception. I saw an opportunity to write an essay involving the phrases "hit man," "pit of rattlesnakes," and "Clint Eastwood in a dress" -- and obviously couldn't pass it up!
Here it is running in Vail, though I hope other papers throughout the West will continue to pick it up through the holiday week.
